As the official sports health provider for Akron Zips Athletics, Akron Children's sought to expand its Sports Health program with a dedicated on-campus facility that would serve Division I student-athletes while improving access to orthopedic and sports medicine services for students and the broader community. The goal was to create a centralized destination for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation within the University's existing athletic complex.

AVID Architects transformed space within the University of Akron's Stile Athletics Field House into a comprehensive sports medicine and rehabilitation facility. The renovation integrates orthopedic and sports medicine clinics with physical therapy, advanced rehabilitation equipment, on-site X-ray, and specialized treatment areas for procedures including ultrasound-guided injections and platelet-rich plasma therapy. Thoughtful planning allowed the diverse clinical functions to operate seamlessly within the existing athletics environment while creating an efficient experience for patients and providers alike.

Today, the facility provides centralized, sport-specific care in a modern, accessible environment that supports athletic performance, injury recovery, and long-term wellness. By bringing specialized healthcare directly to campus, the project strengthens Akron Children's partnership with the University of Akron while expanding access to high-quality sports medicine services throughout the region.
