As Akron Children's expanded its presence in Lorain County, the organization needed a facility that could house multiple pediatric specialties and expand access to care for families across the region. The project faced significant challenges, including poor soil conditions that required geo-pier stabilization and an aggressive schedule driven by a fixed opening date.

To keep the project on schedule, AVID Architects implemented a phased design strategy, releasing site, shell, and interior construction packages independently so work could begin as soon as possible. Throughout the process, the design team worked closely with physicians, department leaders, and end users to tailor each clinical space to its specific operational needs, creating an efficient environment that supports both caregivers and patients. Geo-piers were incorporated to stabilize the site's poor soil conditions and provide a strong foundation for the new facility.

Completed in 2021, the 23,000-square-foot health center provides a centralized destination for pediatric and rehabilitative care while improving operational efficiency for Akron Children's. Today, the facility continues to serve the region through Akron Children's services and an ongoing partnership with Mercy Health, expanding access to quality healthcare for families across Northeast Ohio
