Akron’s former Fire Station No. 4 was outdated and no longer met the city’s operational demands. Administrative functions were spread across multiple locations, creating inefficiencies that impacted communication, coordination, and daily operations.

AVID Architects partnered with KZF Design, a public safety expert out of Cincinnati, to design a new 38,000 SF facility bringing the fire administration under one roof at Station No. 4. To meet the city’s urgent need for improved services, AVID implemented a phased fast-track approach, releasing site, shell, and interior packages in stages to allow construction to begin ahead of full documentation.

The project broke ground in August 2018 and was completed in late 2019. The new two-story facility centralizes operations, improves efficiency, and positions the City of Akron's fire service to meet growing demand. The project demonstrates how strategic planning, specialized expertise, and phased delivery can keep critical public safety projects moving without compromising quality.
