Dominion Energy needed a new training facility for both tradespeople and office staff, blending classrooms, lecture halls, and hands-on work spaces with specialized features like an excavator “sandbox” and a simulation training town for real-world practice. Securing approvals was complex, as the project crossed zoning jurisdictions, had unique operational goals, and had to comply with municipal design standards. Dominion also set a target of LEED Silver certification, underscoring its commitment to sustainability.

AVID coordinated closely with Dominion, regulators, and local officials to align safety, sustainability, and design requirements. The final design integrated the unique training environments with masonry-clad architecture that met community expectations while consolidating all functions under one roof.

Today, the training center serves as a vital workforce development hub, now operated by Enbridge, supporting safety, innovation, and skill-building in the energy sector.
